JEFF COWEN VISITS STOCKHOLM 6-7 NOVEMBER
We are delighted to present Impermanence and Interval, an exhibition of works by Jeff Cowen at IVAR Stockholm, The Matchstick Palace.
Cowen works exclusively with analogue photography, using negative formats from 35 mm up to 8×10 inches, and makes every print himself in his own darkroom. For him, the image captured by the camera is not the end result but a starting point. He treats the prints chemically, works the surface by hand and often finishes them with painting and collage. Each work is therefore unique, existing as a single piece.
The exhibition spans more than a decade, from his former studio in Berlin-Kreuzberg to his current practice in rural Provence. The Provence series has been shown at Huis Marseille, Museum for Photography, and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and was presented by WILLAS contemporary at Paris Photo 2025 in the Grand Palais.
In Stockholm, the works leave the white cube and meet the historic rooms of the Matchstick Palace, a place where architecture, craft and art have long been woven into everyday life.
